A Serta memory foam pillow may be what you need to get a good night’s sleep finally. This is especially true if you’ve been suffering from headaches, neck and back pain while trying to sleep.
Serta makes their memory foam pillows to provide the most comfort and support where you need it. The memory foam can mold around your weight and shape, offering great support all night long.
Because your choice of pillow is important, you need to research your options. Many memory foam pillows use polyurethane foam, which makes the pillow become very hot the longer you lay on it.
Some pillows use toxic microfibers in their liners, resulting in allergic reactions to people who may be sensitive. You'll want to make sure that the memory foam pillow you choose is comfortable to sleep on all night, is hypoallergenic, will last you a long time.
How We Reviewed
To do this review, we looked at Serta’s main line of memory foam pillows, which include the gel liner, and looked at several key factors, including:
We also compared the Serta memory foam pillow to four competing memory foam pillows from the same price range who offer similar products. These are Spa Sensations, Sleep Innovations, Iso-Cool, and Save-and-Soft memory foam pillows.
Serta is the biggest name in pillows today. Founded in 1931 in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, the company has been making mattresses and pillows for more than 80 years. The first Serta pillows were introduced in the 1970s as part of Serta’s Total Sleep System, and their pillows continue to be big sellers today.
Serta is huge, with a massive international footprint and products found in Asia, Europe, South America and North America. Because of this, it can be difficult to get personalized customer service support when you need it. Like most gigantic international manufacturers, Serta leaves the trouble of dealing with customers to its retailers. Trying to talk to Serta definitely feels like you’re talking to a massive corporation, and this lack of personal touch can be upsetting to some when problems arise.
In addition to being an international company based in the U.S., most, if not all, of Sealy’s products are manufactured in China. Whether or not that is a factor in your purchasing decision is up to you.
About the Serta Memory Foam Pillow
No products found.
Although Serta is known for mattresses, the company produces several lines of pillows, with memory foam pillows being some of the most popular. Most of Serta’s memory foam pillows are made with a gel memory foam, which uses a layer of gel beads within the memory foam to allow air to flow through the pillow, keeping it cool and comfortable. Memory foam pillows are notorious for getting incredibly hot, and it seems Serta has found a way around this problem.
Also, Serta also makes all of its pillows from hypo-allergenic Egyptian cotton, so they are soft to the touch and, unless your cat sleeps on it, your pillow won’t be the cause of any allergic reactions. They are safe for children, those who are ill and sensitive sleepers alike.
Some of Serta’s memory foam pillows include the iComfort Scrunch line, which are gel memory foam pillows meant for travel. We won’t be considering those pillows in this review, and will instead only concentrate on Serta’s memory foam pillows meant for your bed at home.
Specifications and Pricing
Materials: Gel bead memory foam & Egyptian cotton liner
Cover: 90% polyester
Dimensions: 15” wide x 21” long x 1.5” high
Unlike Serta mattresses, there is no warranty coverage for your Serta memory foam pillow except anything offered by the retailer who sold it to you. This can be a deal-breaker for some people, so if having a manufacturer back up their products with a warranty is important to you, this could be a problem.
How It Stacks Up
There are four or five different models of Serta memory foam pillows on the market right now so nailing down the specifications can be a little difficult, but we’ve gone ahead and looked at the standard “Memory Foam Classic” as the baseline model.
There’s more than one memory foam pillow to choose from, and we’ve assembled four of Serta’s biggest competitors who offer the most similar experience, to compare the Serta memory foam pillow with.
Spa Sensations Memory Foam Pillow
No products found.
This California-based bedding manufacturer makes mattresses, toppers, bed frames, pillows, and memory-foam slippers. Their products are found exclusively at Walmart and on Amazon. Spa Sensations is quickly becoming the number-one selling mattress and pillow brand in America, thanks to their varied inventory.
A Spa Sensations memory foam pillow doesn’t stack up as well to a Sealy memory foam pillow, because Spa Sensations uses standard polyurethane, which absorbs body heat and becomes incredibly hot with extended use. The Sealy memory foam, with its gel beads, remains much cooler and more comfortable. Like Sealy, Spa Sensations offers no warranty on its pillows
Sleep Innovations Memory Foam Pillow
No products found.
This company is from West Long Beach, New Jersey. They started making gel memory foam in the 1990s, and claim “Amazon was just a bookstore when we invented gel memory foam."
Whether or not Sleep Innovations is the actual inventor of gel memory foam is up for debate, but what can’t be argued is that they produce a comfortable pillow.
If polyurethane gets too hot, then Sleep Innovations gel memory foam definitely stays much cooler. They don’t use the same gel beads that Sealy uses, so their pillows still retain some heat. However, compared to standard memory foam this is one comfortable pillow.
Sleep Innovations also guarantees all of its products, pillows included, with a decent warranty that will replace a defective pillow once within the warranty period. you can find memory foam pillows from Sleep Innovations at major retailers such as Sears, Amazon, and Target.
Sleep Better Iso-Cool Memory Foam Pillow
No products found.
Sleep Better is a brand owned by Carpenter Co, which has been making mattresses and pillows since 1948. This Richmond, Virginia company claims they are the largest pillow manufacturer in the world, although this claim is hard to quantify.
By and large, Sleep Better’s iso-cool memory foam pillows are comfortable. They use a gel bead-infused memory foam, much like the Sealy memory foam pillow. And they also use a 300-thread count hypoallergenic cotton for the cover, providing comparable safety and comfort to the Sealy pillows. Like Sealy, Sleep Better doesn’t offer a warranty for its pillows. You can find Sleep Better at most major retailers such as Walmart, Walgreens, Kmart, Amazon, and others.
Save-and-Soft Memory Foam Pillow
No products found.
While all the other products reviewed so far make pillows as an accessory to their mattress and bedding lines, Save-and-Soft prides themselves on making pillows first. Based in New York City, Save-and-Soft is a fairly recent newcomer to the scene. They sell their pillows exclusively online, mainly through Amazon and their online retail partner EuropaSoft.
Save-and-Soft uses gel bead technology in its memory foam, making for a cool and comfortable sleep. They also use hypoallergenic materials, and their pillows are machine washable. Save-and-Soft memory foam pillows come with the best warranty of all these pillows, with a 30-day money back guarantee and a 90-day replacement for a defective pillow. They are also famous for their outstanding customer service.
Pros and Cons of the Sealy Memory Foam Pillow
If Serta makes popular, comfortable and competitive memory foam pillows, then there are definitely some downsides to consider. The lack of warranty and the large range of pillows on offer can make choosing a Sealy memory foam pillow difficult. Sealy is also a huge international company that keeps its customers at arm's length.
What We Like
Hypoallergenic materials, especially comfortable, airy Egyptian cotton, is important in today’s world, and Serta doesn’t skimp on materials. You and your family can safely lay on a Serta memory foam pillow without fear of dangerous chemicals. For a lot of people, this is an extremely important consideration.
In addition to making safe and comfortable pillows, you can pick up a Serta memory foam pillow at a comfortable price. These are good-quality pillows that will last you for years. And, while these pillows are priced along with the competition, the gel beads and the Egyptian cotton provide more value than most others.
What We Don't Like
We weren’t impressed with the lack of warranty for their pillows. Because of their huge size, Serta depends on retailers to cover its products with their own warranties. This is a practice that many pillow manufacturers prefer. For better or worse this makes getting support for manufacturer defects difficult.
Nevertheless, for most people, a Serta memory foam pillow will do just fine. These are good pillows, well-built with quality materials at a good price. If you’re in the market for a pillow replacement or upgrade, you can’t go wrong with a Serta memory foam pillow!
